Jan van den Nieuwenhuijzen is the former CEO of SD Worx, a Human Resource company, rooted in Antwerp. After his career at SD Worx, he is now active in several Antwerpian social and youth related projects.
Two little sentences
According to Jan, his first writing experiences were 60 years ago with a dip pen. He remembers two little sentences from his time as a student, that only differed one single word. “Put down your pens“, if you had to stop writing because you had run out of time to fill in your test and “Put your pens down for a second“, if you had to pay attention and listen to the story your teacher was about to tell.
Those stories were not about something you should learn by heart, but about understanding the true essence of things.
That is exactly what Jan remembered about his visit to Conid: it is not only about the pens, but also about the story and the people behind it.
Jan: “When I arrived at Conid a month ago to get to know more about the company and its Bulkfillers, we didn’t say a word about the pens in the first hour. What we did talk about, was the history and values of Conid. How does a
company with its history in the farmaceutic industry come up with the idea of creating a brand new fountain pen? Obvious (themes) like long-term views and risk spreading came up.
What I found really striking however, is how things quickly shifted to: how to create high quality and premium products in today’s fast-paced society. We talked about sustainability, respect, integrity and being creative as a team, including everyone’s individual competences.”
Take your time to come up with great and valuable ideas
Conid’s philosophy and values are what I find important to conduct to our future generations as well:
Develop and strengthen your talents, and explore your passions.
Listen to other people’s input and come up with a sustainable solution through cooperation
Don’t tweet to quickly: take your time to come up with great and valuable ideas.
